Choosing a test centre

Same test, same score. The British Council and IDP run the identical IELTS test, marked to the same standard. Universities, employers and visa offices don’t mind which one you choose – pick the centre that is closest and has the date you need.

On computer, with face-to-face Speaking. Listening, Reading and Writing are taken on a computer at the centre in one sitting of about 2 hours 40 minutes. Speaking is a short interview with an examiner, on the same day or within a week before or after, depending on the slots available.

Big cities have more dates. Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad have centres from both providers and the most sessions. If you’re in a smaller city and the dates don’t suit you, a centre in a nearby city may have an earlier slot.

Bring the ID you booked with. Register with a valid passport or CNIC and bring the same document on test day – the name must match exactly.

Get used to the computer test before test day

Reading three passages on screen, typing two essays against the clock and hearing each recording once are the parts that surprise candidates most. Band.pk’s IELTS mock test uses the same computer-delivered layout – timer, question navigator, highlighting and notes – and gives your band score straight away. Then check the IELTS fee in Pakistan and book with confidence.
